Guys, I’m really excited. I’ve been wanting to start this for months but I wanted to make sure it would be perfect. Those who know me know that I’ve had about as miserable of a sports fandom that someone could have. As a Jets, Mets, and Knicks fan who lives and dies with every Week 4 loss to the Lions, mid June sweep against the Rockies, and January loss to the Magic, I am probably going to die by the age of 50 if things don’t change (which they won’t). However, there is one dark, desolate corner of the sports world where I have managed to find some semblance of happiness: hating.
When you root for a bottom of the barrel loser, a team that can never win the big one, and teams with the worst ownerships in sports it is impossible to find solace in your own teams. But one place you can find happiness is cheering against teams. Really, really hating a team to the point where whoever they play on a given day is your favorite team is really fucking fun. I will have plenty of stories and examples in the coming weeks, but if you haven’t personally experienced it then you’ll have to just trust me for now.
So, for now I will be putting out one piece a week on The Art of Hating. Either with a story about a specific hating event in my life or a team that I personally hate or are all time hated teams. I have a lot of great ideas for this series and I hope you enjoy what I have to say. Be ready for my first part of the series coming out this Monday.
