I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m extremely happy with the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) right now. Why am I happy with a transportation service? Well… I’m heading out to The Hamptons for the U.S Open at Shinnecock Hills on Saturday and I’m absolutely ecstatic. Shinnecock is around an hour drive from my house on a normal day with no traffic. But on a weekend for the U.S Open? Who knows how long that could be.
So I’m thinking, okay there’s no other way to get out there so we’ll suck it up and drive. Next thing you know I’m hearing rumblings from other people I know taking a train. I was extremely confused, I didn’t even know the LIRR went that far out east on Long Island. That’s when I found out that the LIRR built a temporary train station at Shinnecock for the U.S Open.

This is what I call life-altering news. First off, the LIRR is living in 3018 for coming up with this idea. Second off, wow.
If we were to drive, we’d have to park 25 minutes from Shinnecock Hills and then take a shuttle all the way there. So after at least 2 hours of traffic, we’d need to take another shuttle there. That’s what I call a disaster.
So now that the LIRR is genius, we’ll be getting dropped off at the train station which is about a 25 minute drive. Then we will be taking the 1 hour 15 minute train straight to Shinnecock. Guaranteed arrival at Shinnecock around 9 a.m, and absolutely zero risk of getting stuck in traffic until 10:30-11 a.m.
Huge shoutout to LIRR. Absolutely brilliant idea by them. I’m looking forward to a great Saturday at the U.S Open.
