Roy Hibbert, One Of My All-Time Favorites, Confirms He’s Done With The NBA

Roy Hibbert told TMZ in a video Tuesday morning that he’s ‘done’ with the NBA, and that ‘it’s just time to move on.’ Hibbert was a 2x NBA All-Star when he was with the Indiana Pacers, and last played with the Denver Nuggets during the 2016-2017 season.
Here’s the video (via TMZ):
All I have to say is that when I heard Roy Hibbert’s name I was in shock. What a blast from the past this guy is. Technically, he last played two years ago, but hasn’t been relevant since the 2014-2015 season. In NBA years, that feels like forever ago. It’s crazy the drop-off that this guy had…an All-Star to out of the league in a little over three years.
However, when he was relevant, Roy Hibbert was one of my favorite players in the league. It’s very rare that you get a guy who’s the Roy Hibbert-type these days. Hibbert is an old school, no B.S guy. When I mean no B.S, I mean no B.S. The video below is one of my favorites of all-time:
‘Y’all Motherfuckers don’t watch us play’ has to be one of the best quotes ever. Roy Hibbert spoke the truth. When he was good, he was really really really good. The guy was an absolute defensive force, and wasn’t afraid of anyone out on the court. Unfortunately, the best and most memorable play of his career was against my Knicks, but it was one hell of a play.
Roy Hibbert averaged 12.8 PPG and 8.8 RPG at the peak of his career in 2011-12, and averaged a career-high 2.6 BPG in 2012-2013. When he was drafted 17th overall in the 2008 NBA Draft out of Georgetown, the concern from NBA scouts was his work ethic, which ended up being his main downfall.
However, respect to Roy Hibbert for being such a stand up guy and being so fun to watch. We need more prime-Roy Hibberts in today’s game. Happy trails in retirement.
