Arizona State looked like a real basketball team this year, coming into Pac-12 conference play. They sure fooled a lot of folks. While the entire nation thought ASU was the real deal, the only people who really knew the truth about ASU were the Arizona Wildcats!
After non-conference play, ASU fans actually thought this was the year that they would hold the title as the state of Arizona’s best basketball team: The Wildcats had a rough spot in the Bahamas and, well, the Suns just suck… They were the last undefeated team in college basketball and ASU fans were walking around with you know what out, coming into their first Pac-12 conference game against their bitter instate rival Wildcats. They walked into the McKale Center behind the cocky Bobby Hurley, thinking they would actually have a chance. Boy were they wrong. The Cats showed the Devils that they will always be THE team in the state of Arizona. The Cats beat ASU in a close game and were the culprits of starting ASU’s downward spiral in Pac-12 Conference play. Glorious!
Arizona State went from the third ranked team in the nation before conference play, to a team who has left it up to the committee to decide whether they get in to the NCAA Tournament. Remember what happened the last time ASU left it in the hands of the committee when they thought they deserved a spot? If you don’t, I’ll be happy to remind you.
In 2008, ASU was “snubbed” according to ESPN, but we all know that the selection committee doesn’t want ASU to taint their prestigious tourney. As we all know, Sundevils don’t know how to learn from their mistakes… and they did it again. They went 8-10, finishing 9th in the Pac-12 conference, who really only had one powerhouse team (the Wildcats), and the potential deal breaker, their Pac-12 Tournament loss to the Colorado Buffs. Reports were saying that ASU would have basically been a shoe in for the tourney with a win over the Buffs, but ASU did what ASU does best… BLEW IT! Bobby Hurley has already talked about their wins over Kansas and Xavier, pleading his case for why they should be in the NCAA Tournament. Keep begging Bobby, but you may have to get on your knees (wink) to have a prayer… May I be the first one to say: CONGRATS on the #1 NIT Berth!
P.S. – ‘member when Bobby was drunk on social media betting with his daughter about the game at Kansas? Well… I wonder what the bet was if Bobby shit the bed, and missed the NCAA Tourney.. Can’t wait to see!!
That moment when you might have had too much wine in Italy in August and you tell your Sun Devil daughter if we beat Kansas you will give her $500 to spend at mall (and forgot she had it on video). pic.twitter.com/Aw9HlGnPu8
