I’m what I’d like to call a Seasoned Veteran of Fantasy Football. I’ve been around Fantasy Football since I was born, as my dad has been playing for 20 years, and I’ve been playing in the same league for what’s going to be a 12th season. Keep in mind that 12 years is 60% of my years on Earth (I’m currently 20 years old and turning 21 in January).
When I was around seven or eight years old, I witnessed my dad jump around my house while watching the games with his friends because Anquan Boldin caught a TD to win him the Fantasy Football Super Bowl. It’s simple… Fantasy Football is in my blood.
Every summer, I wait and wait and wait for the perfect time to buy a couple of fantasy football magazines and officially start preparing for draft day. I’m absolutely craving that time right now, but it’s just a bit too early and it’s annoying me. I need it to come already.
For a person that is a fantasy football fanatic, the perfect time to start preparing is the second week of July. That is the point where NBA Free Agency will be winding down, the World Cup will be ending, and the only thing left will be baseball. That moment is when you get up, go on Amazon or go to the store, and buy that first Fantasy Football magazine. Or if you prefer not to spend the money, that is the time you start sorting through ESPN and Yahoo draft kits.
What do I mean by fantasy football fanatic? I mean if your a guy who’s been in a league a long time and loves it, not a guy who does this for a living and is a Matthew Berry, Brad Evans type guy. Those guys do this all year round, and I’m sure many of us would kill to have that job, so props to them.
I simply can’t wait for two weeks… player rankings, stat projections, sleepers, busts, team names, the moments where your listening to the fantasy radio station on XM and you hear a guy call up and ask a dumb question and all you can do is laugh… I can feel it all coming.
Trust me, I will let you know that exact moment I begin to prepare for the Fantasy Football draft, I just needed to alert everyone that it’s coming soon. Be prepared for a ton of Fantasy Football content this season; it’s going to be a fun summer. Be ready.
