For Jets Fans Across The World, Today Is Baker Mayfield Day

Draft Day is here. For 32 NFL teams it is the most important day of the year since the season ended. Every GM, coach, and fan is hoping that their team will find their next franchise player. Whether they are one of the many teams looking for a QB, or an already elite team looking for that last piece to push them to a championship. Well, for Jets fans, there is only one man that exists tonight.
Baker is not the hero the Jets deserve, but he is the one they need right now. Jets fans don’t get nice things. For the past decade we’ve seen the revolving door of Mark Sanchez, Kellen Clemens, Greg McElroy, Geno Smith, Michael Vick (!!!), Ryan Fitzpatrick, Bryce Petty, and Josh McCown. The craziest part is the Jets have actually had some good* teams in that time. They went to back to back AFC Championship games with the Sanchize, and with a competent QB they probably would’ve won a Super Bowl at least one of those years. They had a team that was a Week 17 win against the Bills away from the playoffs but lost because Fitz STINKS. They’ve had a lot of young guys who have STUNK because the Jets have been afraid of gambling on a top QB in the draft. They’ve accumulated some good pieces the past couple years and in my opinion have had one of the best offseasons of any team so far.
I LOVE the addition of Teddy Bridgewater. I think he can still play QB in this league. HOWEVA, due to his health he is no sure thing. Which means, the perfect thing for the Jets to do is to draft a top QB prospect with high risk, but the HIGHEST reward. Baker will be able to back up a very down to earth QB in Teddy for a year and then lead this team to greatness. It is time to stop pulling late round bad QBs like Petty, McElroy and Hackenberg. It’s time to take a natural born winner and leader. Those three guys are the exact opposite of Baker, they’re all fucking wallpaper. Baker Mayfield has the type of energy and the “it”factor that this city hasn’t seen since Broadway Joe.
Speaking of Broadway Joe…
Asked what stuck out to him about Mayfield, Namath said: “Well everything. His demeanor. His attitude. He has a spark. He has a personality that shows a no-quit kind of guy. The anger gets in him. The competitiveness comes to the surface. You can see it, you can see the enthusiasm. His teammates, from what I’ve seen, trusted in him, counted on him. And boy, his footwork, his passing ability … he looked like a tough quarterback to defense. Those other guys too, but he looked damn good.” –NY Post
Decent endorsement to me. On draft night if I hear any name other than Baker’s at three I will for sure be upset. But if I don’t then I want Darnold. I think Darnold is the only other top QB worth a top 3 pick. If somehow Darnold and Baker go 1 and 2 which I don’t think is possible then I say trade back. Ship the 3 off to someone who wants Rosen or Allen and grab two later picks with it. Draft a good piece plus either Lamar Jackson or Mason Rudolph. I think both of those guys could be QBs and Lamar Jackson would love to play behind his Louisville predecessor for a year or two as he learns how the league works. If the Jets take anyone other than Darnold or Mayfield with the 3 I will be angry.
For now all we can do is wait and I know I will have severe anxiety for the next 8 hours or so. I don’t want to have to change my Twitter name from Blaker Mayfield. How embarrassing would that be.
This year is different. Jet up.
