Fly The W… W For Walk Off

Who doesn’t love a good walk off? The Cubs won 7-6 on an Anthony Rizzo solo shot in the bottom of the ninth. Not to mention that they were down 6-1 going into the 5th inning, which makes the successful comeback even sweeter. I could watch walk offs all goddamn day. Considering I am a Cubs fan I have been riddled with walk offs. But not just this year, since about 2015 I am almost guaranteed one a week.

By God, I cream over Rizzo’s swing. The two hand finish, the half squat, that stare. He is easily one of my top 5 favorite Cubs of all time. The walk off also capped off Rizzo’s 1,000th career game which is a nice touch. If you’re reading this, Tony, *super-ultra-sonic high five* So I’m going to get off the walk off now and bring up the swing that tied up the game just one batter before this. David “Bout that life” Bote.

David Bote hailing from just up the road, Longmont, CO. has been absolutely crushing it this year. Bote has been pulling his weight in wake of a year filled with injuries for the Cubs all star third baseman, Kris Bryant. He has played 14 games at third, 4 at second, and 1 at first. With a small sample size of 46 AB’s, Bote has a .326 batting average. However, over the last seven games he has a .471/.571/.882 triple slash line. Out fucking standing. This will bring me to my last point. Bote is showing signs of early production and with him being a second baseman by trade, this looks like it could be the end of the road for Addison Russell in Chicago. As much as I like Addy and am thankful for everything he did (especially in the World Series run), I see Russell as a potential trade piece. WIth the rise of Javy and now David Bote, who fits in the chaos that is the Joe Maddon system, it might be the end of Addy. Maybe we will talk about it on the next episode of “Backdoor Breakers” so look out for that. (Nice plug huh?)
