NBC Sports-Chicago did some big J journalism to find out that Yu Darvish (via his catcher) thinks that all of Chicago hates him…

Chris Gimenez, catcher for the Cubs, spoke with Steve Greenberg about the woes of Yu’s first year in Chicago. He said that Yu cares about what people think, looks at twitter, sees the hate spewed on social media, and thinks everyone is on the hate-Yu train. Well, he’s probably not wrong… but it isn’t all Yu’s fault.
Yu Darvish is somewhat in a no-win situation, unless he wins them a pennant and pitches well in a World Series (something he didn’t do for the Dodgers last year). He was the backup plan after Jake Arrieta told Theo Epstein to take his offer and shove it up his ass… Jake put his house on the market in Chicago right after the season, before even hearing out offers. Arrieta wanted out of Chicago, and from what I’ve heard & can tell… its cuz of Theo.
So when Jake said “Fuck You” to the Cubs, the Cubs had to say “Fuck, Yu”… and offered the guy a YUGE (see what I did there) contract… now what he needs to understand is, while yes, his on field success, or lack thereof, has something to do with the fandom’s animosity. Most of it comes from the fact he will never replace Jake in their eyes… But when you get paid 100+ million dollars, you do need to come out the gates blazing, and he hasn’t been able to do that. But, when he is 100% healthy and able to deal, they will likely lighten up on Yu, but with such a high price tag associated with him… anything less than what Arrieta does in Philly will be a failure.
GLBOL Yu, I loved you when you were in Texas.. Don’t care for ya too much nowadays.
