Desperation Time For The Avs

The Colorado Avalanche are coming into a must win game 5 in Nashville tonight. The Avs are currently down 3-1 in the best of 7 series, but that’s not the only thing they are down… They are also down their number one defenseman, their number one and now number two goalie, one of their best young defenseman. Even with all of the adversity, the Avs are showing no quit and we saw that in game 4 even though we lost. With all the shit the Avs have been through from injuries, to the dirty play of the Preds, they clearly haven’t lost one key important factor… their heart, and we saw that in game 4. The Avs came into the third period with a 3 goal deficit and if not for a late post would have tied the game up. The entire Avalanche team showed that they aren’t done yet even though all the odds are against them.
The Avs need to play tonight with the same desperation they played with in the third period in game 4. They need to make smart decisions and do everything in their power to help 3rd string goalie Andrew Hammond. The best way to do that is to score and keep scoring, like what happened in game 3. Hell, maybe Hammond can surprise us all and re-start his career like he wanted to after coming to Colorado from Ottawa as part of the Duchene trade. We can all hope.
No matter what happens tonight, the Avs have shown us all that they deserve to be in the NHL playoffs. They are skating and playing with the Preds, who may I remind you are arguably the best team in the NHL. We have seen the Avs grow not only as a team but also as an entire franchise. The young guns are getting a taste of playoff hockey and are learning from the best in Nashville. The Avs haven’t stepped down to the physical play and are even getting more physical as the series has gone on. Let’s hope the Avs can keep this ride going, because man has it been a fun one!
