Championship week is upon us. It’s only 3 o’clock and I have already bet on three college basketball games, and I’ve never been happier. As March Madness arrives the casual sports fan gets excited, but us degenerate gamblers know it is truly paradise. Many gamblers and sports fans look at the first weekend of March Madness as the pinnacle of gambling. But I am here to disagree.
Championship Week is hands down the number one best gambling week of the year. The opening weekend of the tournament may be the best two day period, but why settle for two days when you can have a whole week? This year we were even more blessed because the Big 10 tournament was the week before Championship Week. A whole seven days early our lord granted us with noon, weekday basketball games. I bet on every single game and actually did quite well. My Michigan +650 future cashed in and I was very content with myself. Now let’s discuss these futures.
Futures are one of the reasons why Championship Week is the best. Yes, you can bet futures for the National Title, but that is almost impossible to hit because there are so many teams and it is so unpredictable. You can fade your picks to guarantee coming out even, you can double down on your picks like I did with Michigan and win big, or you can sit back and enjoy without even betting every game. When it comes to betting futures I take a 4 or 5 seed with value and pray for the best. Here are some of my futures for this week:
Big 12- WVU +400- Their defense could lead them to a championship
Pac-12- USC +450- They’ve struggled but they still have a lot of talent and if Arizona loses the field opens wide
SEC- Kentucky +500- The SEC is strange this year because it’s the best the conference has been in forever, but any team could lose at any time. Kentucky still has a ton of talent and Cal knows how to win in March.
Missouri +1400- A hot team with tremendous value and like I said, anybody can beat anybody in the SEC this year. Plus Michael Porter Jr. is making his return.
South Carolina +5000- Yes I am biased, but these odds were too good not to take. A team coming off a Final Four with a couple senior starters, the SEC defensive player of the year, and an unbelievable head coach give them a decent chance. They do have to play every round of the tournament, but you really never know with Frank Martin. Go cocks.
ACC- Virginia Tech +1200- They stink but they have somehow beat every good team in the ACC this year… so they must have a shot.
Good luck this week folks. Let’s enjoy a week of streaming games at work and school and betting all of our money.
