Week 2 of of the NFL was not kind to many of us fantasy football owners out there. It was an injury riddled day, and I don’t ever remember a single week when this many players all went down. So for the purpose of this blog we are going to recap all of the injuries that took place on Sunday and best replacements and waiver wire pickups for each of them.
This was probably the single biggest injury to fantasy owners on Sunday. Adrian Peterson went down last night with a torn meniscus. The good news is that it’s not a torn ACL and he could be back this year and salvage someones fantasy season. The bad news is that this type of injury doesn’t have a definitive timetable which as any fantasy owner knows is infuriating. Jerick Mckinnon and Matt Asiata will be hot waiver wire pick ups this week in AP’s absence.
This is a tough break for Danny Woodhead and his fantasy owners. I’ve always loved Danny ever since his days with the Pats. It’s always hard seeing undersized players who bust their ass to be in this league go down with an Injury like this. He has not had an MRI yet but knee injuries are never a good thing. Fantasy owners who have Melvin Gordon (such as myself) will be happy to see his workload increase and Melvin could end up being one of the best fantasy RB’s this year.
Well this sure is a familiar site. Another week in the books and another Cleveland Browns quarterback carted off the field. All joking aside this does suck for Cleveland and next week they will be starting rookie QB Cody Kessler. Fun Fact, going back to last year the Browns have started 5 different QB’s in 5 consecutive weeks… eww
I was watching this game and this was a weird injury. Rawls was “kicked” in the leg and although it is unlikely that he will miss much time, this is definitely disconcerting to his fantasy owners. Rawls had a lot of promise leading up to this season and hopefully his absence is only temporary.
Well when it rains it pours in Seattle (pun intended). Not only have they looked like shit in the first 2 weeks of the season, but their offense has been non existent. Throw in a few injuries to 3 of their key offensive weapons (Rawls, Baldwin, and Lockett), and they are up shits creek without a paddle. Tyler Lockett’s injury is apparently minor and for Seattle’s sake I hope that’s case.
Say it ain’t so Jimmy G!!! This injury hurts twofold for us Pats fans. First of all Jimmy has been playing out of his mind while filling in for Tom Brady and he actually has the highest QBR in the League!! I mean why would we expect anything less from the New England Patriots, plug and play baby. At first glance it looked like a broken collar bone but thankfully for the Pats it was only a sprained AC joint. Jacoby Brissett finished the the game for the Pats and looked OK. He got the job done and it looks like he will be the starter for New England Thursday night against Houston. Good news for us Pats fans…. The GOAT will be back in 2 short weeks.
Other notable but not serious injuries from week 2 include:
Demarcus Ware (OLB), Doug Martin, (RB), Julio Jones (WR), Donte Moncrief (WR), Jonathan Stewart (RB), Arian Foster (RB), Ameer Abdullah (RB), Tyler Locket (WR).
It’s a tough time to be a running back in the National Football League.
